The Song and The Singer
A Lifetime of Song from the Heart: On Jan. 8, 2022, the Woody Hawley Concert Series paid tribute to John Lilly, one of West Virginia’s finest singer-songwriters. AMP Media was called upon to craft a tribute to John’s heartfelt career to open the evening, documenting through interviews, imagery, and song his wide-ranging career even as he wrestles with Parkinson’s Disease while continuing to sing on.
“I Never Slept With Allen Ginsberg”
CHARACTERS: A music video about how I never slept with Allen Ginsberg: What do you get when you mix famous poet Allen Ginsberg, a bonfire deep in the West Virginia hills, an interview, and recording studio? Well, 30 years later you get a rocking, percussive music video.

“LAY THAT BURDEN DOWN”: A Musical Homage to John Lewis, Sung by Lady D: The world premiere of our music video of the Ron Sowell and Jon Wikstrom song “Lay Down That Burden,” sung by Lady D and inspired by the life, courage, and heart of John Lewis, whose example is ever more needed in America

“Be the Change”
“Be the Change”: A timely tune by Ron Sowell and Jon Wikstrom. The song features Sowell, leader of the “Mountain Stage” band, on vocals and guitar, backed by the acclaimed duo The Sea The Sea, and some of West Virginia’s finest musicians. Much of the video was shot in West Virginia, including all the aerial footage.
“Disturbing My Peace”
“Disturbing My Peace”: A tour de force production by Bobby Lee Messer of the title track of “Disturbing My Peace” by West Virginia singer-songwriter Lady D and her band MI$$ION. “I don’t really label myself as a blues singer or R&B. I like to sing good music,” she says in this interview. Here, you’ll hear just that.
